So far the best book I found about Filipino culture, highly recommended! Learn more about the people and the way they live and think, it's essential for a better understanding. Unfortunately the book is out of print presently, but you may try searching for it on eBay, where I found my copy, too.

Culture Shock! Philippines
A good alternative for the first book in English language. It covers nearly the same topics and it's very recommended as preparation for tourists and visitors of the Philippines.

Cebuano (Visaya) für die Philippinen
Very useful handbook for German tourists visiting the Visayas and North Mindanao featuring practical sentences translated literally from Cebuano to German. Practical for getting a feeling for the language, though it's not a real textbook. An audio cassette is also available to be able to listen to the phrases spoken by a native speaker.

Kauderwelsch, Tagalog (Pilipino) Wort für Wort
Similar to the first book, but this time it's about Tagalog (Pilipino).

Dictionary Filipino - German
Useful dictionary for German tourists who want to be able to look up words easily. Doesn't contain as many words as some Filipino - English dictionaires, but it's still recommendable!

Philippinen. Reise-Handbuch
Since 1971 Jens Peters has been writing travellers guides about the Philippines and some say, it's the world best guide available at all. Over 900 pages!

Lonely Planet, Philippines
Another great release of the famous "Lonely Planet" book series, loads of informations on over 440 pages. This guide includes information on accommodation and places to eat for every budget. It covers what to do and see in the region and offers tips on getting the best out of your visit and how to get-off-the-beaten-track.

HB Bildatlas Special, H.69, Philippinen
Lots of beautiful pictures about the Philippines, even Surigao City is represented!
